Third Party Charges from Home Emergency Insurance Solutions (HEIS)

Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas ®) provides billing services to certain third parties selling energy-related or home safety-related products or services.

SoCalGas has a billing arrangement with HEIS, a national provider of optional home warranties. Under this billing arrangement, customers of SoCalGas who choose to purchase optional home warranties from HEIS may choose to pay the monthly home warranty fee through their natural gas utility bill.

HEIS is not regulated by the California Public Utilities Commission and is not the same company as SoCalGas. You are not required to purchase products from HEIS to receive natural gas service and SoCalGas neither endorses nor warrants this service. HEIS purchases mailing lists from a third-party vendor.

If you are interested in learning more about HEIS' home warranties, please call them toll-free at 1-888-302-0138, or click here* to go to HEIS' web site.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this something new that I'm able to pay for something besides my natural gas utility charges on my bill?

As a convenience to customers, SoCalGas has been providing billing services to third parties selling energy-related or home safety-related products or services since the late 1990s.

Does SoCalGas endorse HEIS?

While SoCalGas works with HEIS as a billing provider, we do not endorse or accept liability for HEIS' specific warranty products, services and terms. As with any other purchase, customers should do appropriate research to determine whether HEIS' services are right for them.

Why does SoCalGas offer this billing service?

SoCalGas provides third party billing services as a convenience to our customers.

Does SoCalGas make money on this service?

SoCalGas is paid a fee by HEIS for providing the billing and remittance processing services. The majority of this fee is then paid back to our customers through our rates, and helps keep rates lower than they otherwise could be.

How does SoCalGas select third party companies to provide billing services for?

SoCalGas goes through a formal competitive bid process to select third party companies that provide energy-related or home-safety related products or services. Our requests for proposals are released to the market through a variety of channels, and we select bidders on the basis of a variety of factors related to them as a potential billing vendor.

I just enrolled with HEIS. How soon can I expect to see the charge on my natural gas utility bill?

It may take up to two bill cycles (around two months) from the time you enrolled with HEIS for your new HEIS charges to appear on your natural gas utility bill.

How will the HEIS charge appear on my natural gas utility bill?

The HEIS' charge will appear as:

        HEIS (Service: 1-888-302-0137, Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm, PST)    $xx.xx
        Protection Plan Charge    mm/dd/yyyy

I received an HEIS mailer and want to be taken off their mailing list. How did HEIS get my address? Did SoCalGas sell my address to HEIS?

SoCalGas does not sell customer addresses to third parties. HEIS purchases their mailing lists externally. HEIS maintains its own mailing list. You will need to contact them directly to be removed from future mailings. Their toll free number is 1-888-302-0138.

I'm not sure if I already have home warranty coverage? Will HEIS' home warranty replace my existing coverage?

Customers are responsible for understanding their existing coverage (e.g. homeowner's insurance, appliance warranties, etc.) and assessing whether HEIS' offering, or any other, is appropriate for their individual situations.

The HEIS mailer doesn't answer all of my questions; can you provide me with additional information regarding these HEIS plans?
