Installation Guide

Submit Project Plan
Gas Appliance Information
Joint Trench Installation

  1. Contact your Gas Company Project Manager and submit an application for gas facilities as soon as possible to ensure timely installation of facilities, a minimum of 10 to 12 weeks prior to starting construction. Additional time may be required to acquire permits, and materials, so early notification is essential. Inquiries regarding the availability of gas for proposed projects, environmental Impact Reports (EIRs), or Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) should be directed to a Project Manager based on the location of your project.

  2. Submit your project plans required for design (Tract Maps, Plot Plans, Grading Plans, Sewer Plans, address list, and so forth)

  3. Establish an approved Riser/Meter Location with your Gas Company Project Manager. Multiple meter locations and meter enclosure specifications must also be reviewed and approved early in the design process. Additionally, the riser location must maintain a minimum of 3 ft clearance from any electrical breaker, meter or panel, or air intake system.

  4. After you submit all required plans, SoCalGas will provide you the estimated installation cost (bid) prior to the issuance of a line extension contract. You have the option of selecting the utility as the installer or you may hire a qualified contractor to do the installation as described in Line Extension Rule 20. You must declare which installation option you wish to pursue before work on your project can continue.

  5. Coordinate joint trench installations with your Gas Company Project Manager. All other utilities including sewer and water should be installed prior to Gas facility installation.

  6. Review trench, gutter, curb, and casing specifications with your Gas Company Project Manager to eliminate conflicts and ensure construction schedules are met.

  7. After completion of steps 1-5, notify your Gas Company Project Manager 10 working days before gas line installations need to be scheduled

  8. Submit your signed Contract and payment to the Gas Company before the gas installation start date.

  9. Notify your Gas Company Project Manager immediately of any changes in scope of project, before or during installation of Gas facilities

  10. Information about applicant design or applicant installation of gas utilities is available from your New Business Project Manager upon request.

  11. If you have not already done so, Provide a service address list to your Gas Company Project Manager. Note: The address list should be provided as soon as it is available, a minimum of 4 weeks prior to the close of escrow to avoid delays setting up your billing account and scheduling service.
