May Commodity Price Information

Effective May 1, 2008, the procurement component of the core sales rate will increase 12.697 ¢/therm to 108.444 ¢/therm. This increase resulted mainly from a 11.500 ¢/therm increase in commodity prices. Compared to a year ago, the procurement rate is about 49.4% higher (35.880 ¢/therm) than what it was effective May 2007.

Combined with the transportation rate, core residential and C&I sales customers will see about a 10.2% rate increase from last month.

What The Gas Company is Doing

The Gas Company is working hard to keep natural gas costs as low as possible. We actively seek and support new suppliers and sources of natural gas. We believe that additional gas supplies, from a variety of new sources, will continue to help ensure reliability and increase competition among suppliers. This can help reduce prices overall for our customers. Throughout the year, we buy gas in large volumes at competitive prices on behalf of our residential and small commercial and industrial customers. We store a portion of the gas to help ensure adequate winter supplies, and we draw from this storage at times when prices for gas on the open market are higher. This helps avoid price spikes for our customers.

We are committed to helping our customers manage their energy bills in preparation for winter weather. We offer rebates for qualifying energy-efficient appliance upgrades, assistance programs and discounts for qualifying customers and money-saving tips.
