Eugene “Mitch” Mitchell is vice president, legislative and external affairs for Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) and San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), Sempra Energy's regulated California utilities. He is responsible for external affairs activities for SDG&E and state governmental affairs for both utilities.
Before joining SoCalGas and SDG&E in 2005, Mitchell served as vice president of public policy and communications for the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, where he represented the chamber and its members' public policy positions to local, state and federal officials.
He was previously director of governmental relations for American Medical Response, the nation's largest ambulance transportation firm, and assistant director of governmental relations under former San Diego Mayor Susan Golding.
Mitchell serves on the board of directors of the San Diego Food Bank and New Children's Museum. He is also on the board of trustees of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and is a governor's appointee to the Little Hoover Commission. He holds a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Redlands.
