Chief Regulatory Officer
Lee Schavrien is chief regulatory officer of Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) and San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), Sempra Energy’s regulated California utilities. He is responsible for all regulatory matters for SoCalGas and SDG&E before the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and Federal Energy Commission.
Schavrien has over 37 years of experience in the energy regulation arena and has been involved in all regulatory matters for SDG&E since 1979 and SoCalGas since 1996, including the Enova and Pacific Enterprises merger that formed Sempra Energy. Prior to his current role, he served as chief administrative officer and oversaw information technology, environmental, facility operations and supply management. He is also the co-author of Performance Based Ratemaking, a methodology for California regulators to establish utility rates, which was adopted by the CPUC in a 1993 decision.
Schavrien is a past board member of the San Diego Arthritis Foundation, California Interscholastic Federation – San Diego Section and Poway Wrestling Foundation. He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from National University.
