A Message from SoCalGas Chairman and CEO Bret Lane


Dear SoCalGas Family,
I am honored to lead this company and to work alongside each of you, especially during these challenging and sobering times.
Civil rights issues rightfully are continuing to draw sharp attention in the communities we serve as well as our nation. George Floyd’s death disturbed all of us greatly. It was an abuse of the solemn responsibility of law enforcement and a shameful breach of trust. 
To our African-American SoCalGas family members, I want you to know that your company stands with you, and I have been deeply moved by your calls to support change. Your senior leadership team and I are committed to continuously pursuing change that is positive, purposeful, and lasting. 
That is why we have been taking the time to listen – internally through channels like the Community Conversations that our Diversity & Inclusion team have been hosting, and externally with partners like our Community Advisory Council, a diverse group of local leaders from outside the company. I am hopeful that together we can help our nation correct this wrong, once and for all. In the coming weeks and months, we will announce additional platforms for employee participation in this process, and you have my word that the listening will continue. 
Based in part on our feedback to date, we will be taking tangible, sustained action focused on three areas:
Further expand recruitment, development, and advancement of African-American employees and other diverse employees in our workplace.
Improve and grow our efforts to support African-American owned suppliers.
Increase our support to community organizations that advance the causes of equity and civil rights.
I deeply respect the incredible work of those men and women in our history who have advanced the cause of civil rights, often at great – and sometimes the ultimate -- personal sacrifice. We honor them by steadfastly continuing their work.
SoCalGas’s commitment to our African-American team members, as well as the African-American families and businesses we serve is real and enduring. I am proud of this company’s record on diversity and inclusion. Our workforce reflects the communities that we serve, with strong representation from the many communities of color that make up Southern California.  But we can and will keep improving, and the steps above are just the beginning. I look forward to working with all of you to make this company better and more inclusive, and I’m honored every day to serve beside each of you as we strive to improve our great company.
