Restaurant Refresh Program

As of September 30, 2018, the Restaurant Refresh program is no longer scheduling energy assessments. Final rebate applications are due December 1, 2018

Restaurant Refresh makes it easy for eligible SoCalGas® customers to identify ways to reduce operating costs and improve facility performance. Participants receive no-cost, customized guidance on their facility’s efficiency, energy and water-saving upgrades, rebate application support, and financing options.
Savings are achieved in three easy steps:
  1. Assess: Participate in a no-cost energy and water audit to identify ways to reduce utility costs.
  2. Upgrade: Receive a detailed audit report summarizing actions you can take to improve performance and reduce costs.
  3. Save: Restaurant Refresh provides rebates and incentives when you upgrade to efficient equipment.

Rebates and Incentives

To help lower the cost of equipment and achieve greater savings, Restaurant Refresh offers enhanced rebates that are higher than single-measure rebates.
To receive comprehensive natural gas rebate amounts, participants must complete a minimum of three measures. At least two of these must be natural gas efficiency measures.

The following equipment has no enhanced rebate, but are qualified for performance incentives: Finned-Bottom Stockpot, Underfired Broiler, Under-Counter Dishwasher, Large Storage Water Heater, Demand Control Kitchen Ventilation System, and Door-Type Dishwasher (Low Temperature).

Support for Electric and Water Rebates

Restaurant Refresh offers support on electric and water rebate applications. Eligible items include, but are not limited to:
  • Electric: Lighting, refrigeration auto-closers, demand-controlled ventilation, etc.
  • Water: Air cooled ice machines, connectionless food steamers, toilets and urinals
Participants can receive up to $1.75 per 1,000 gallons of water savings (amounts vary; offered through partner water agencies).

Adding Up the Savings

Participants who receive gas rebates will also be eligible to receive additional incentives of $1.50 per therm for the normalized one-year savings.
Incentive payments are calculated one year following installation, and are based on the amount of gas that the project saves. Total rebate and incentive value is capped at 50% of the total project cost.

Eligibility Requirements

To receive a no-cost Restaurant Refresh energy and water assessment, the facility must be:
  • A verifiable commercial SoCalGas foodservice customer
  • In operation for three or more years
  • Meet minimum annual gas usage of 10,000 therms/year
To receive Restaurant Refresh rebates and performance incentives, participants must complete a no-cost assessment prior to installing qualifying equipment, provide energy and water usage data, and complete all program requirements.
