How should I prepare for an interview?
At SoCalGas we utilize Behavioral-Based Interviewing in which you will be asked to explain how you’ve handled past situations or challenges, using the SHARE model for your answers.
Example: Please describe a time when you recommended an idea to improve the quality of a particular method or system. What was the situation? What was your idea and how did it improve the system or method? What happened as a result?
- Situation – describe a specific situation to the interviewer to provide context
- Hindrances – outline the challenges, constraints, or hindrances you faced in that situation
- Action – describe the action(s) and steps you took to resolve the hindrance
- Results – outline the results or outcomes that came about due to your action(s)
- Evaluate – evaluate for the interviewer what you gained from the experience and how it can be applied to their team or project

Our Hiring Process At A Glance
Welcome to the first step in discovering opportunities at SoCalGas! We want to make sure you're prepared. To help you get started, we've provided an overview of the hiring process and what to expect from the moment you click “Apply” to your first day on the job. Expand the icons below to learn more about each step in the process.
1. Application
Our online application consists of submitting your resume and providing information about yourself including employment history, education, and work authorization. When you have completed your application successfully, you will receive a confirmation email.
Additionally, our application is a two-step process. The first step is to create a profile and upload a resume, and the second step is to complete the digital application and to sign electronically. You will know you are finished when a download of your application becomes available.
*Tip: Many candidates find completing the application easier with a laptop or desktop rather than on a phone. Please note, when you click “Apply Now” you will be routed to our external applicant tracking system.
2. Resume Review & Assessments
Our Human Resources (HR) Talent Acquisition team reviews all resumes and applications against the minimum qualifications for the job.
Resumes that meet minimum qualifications will then be sent to the hiring manager for review. If your resume is selected, you may be emailed with a request to complete an online assessment. Upon completion of the assessment, if there is an interest from a hiring manager, you will be contacted for an interview.
3. Interview
If your resume is chosen, you will be contacted by phone or email to schedule an interview. Interviews will be conducted either virtually or on-site. The number of interviews you're required to complete depends on several factors, including the role, position level, availability of all involved in the hiring process and location. Typically, you will complete at least one Panel Interview with two to five interviewers.

4. Background Checks
All offers of employment from SoCalGas are contingent upon candidates passing a background check, including a drug screen. A background check will consist of the following:
- Criminal history report
- Social Security verification
- Motor vehicle history report
- Employment verification
- Education verification
- Drug Screen
5. You're Hired
On your first day, a member of the onboarding team will be at the designated location to welcome you. They will be completing your I-9 form, so be sure to bring your supporting documents to verify your eligibility to work in the United States.
