On the evening of May 20, SoCalGas crews responded to reports of service outages along the 900 and 1000 blocks of South Ditman Avenue. Upon arrival, crews discovered water intrusion in the natural gas system, which is believed to have been caused by a nearby waterline leak.
At this time, approximately 30 customers along Ditman Avenue and Verona Street are experiencing service interruptions due to water present in both distribution and individual service lines. There is also a possibility that additional customers in the surrounding area may be affected as water continues to move through portions of the natural gas system.
SoCalGas is actively working in coordination with the local water company to identify and stop the source of the water leak. Once the source has been controlled, our crews will begin the process of safely removing water from the natural gas system and restoring service to affected customers as quickly and safely as possible.
Restoring natural gas service is a detailed, multi-step process that requires removing water from main lines, service lines, and meters. Specially trained SoCalGas technicians must then visit each affected property to perform thorough safety checks both inside and outside the home or business before service can be restored. For safety reasons, customers should not attempt to restore natural gas service on their own.
To complete the restoration process, an adult over the age of 18 must be present at the property. The visit and restoration may take approximately one to two hours per location.
SoCalGas representatives are also available in the community to provide updates and answer questions in person at Robert F. Salazar Park, located at 3864 Whittier Boulevard, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
