Due to the installation of Advanced Meter technology, the Meter Reader will no longer observe and read meters each month. However, The Department of Transportation (DOT) Code of Federal Regulations requires that each meter set assembly (MSA) be inspected every three years for corrosion and other abnormal operating conditions.
As a result, we have initiated the Meter Inspection Program to complete a comprehensive inspection of each MSA every three years, at no charge. It is possible our company may visit your property more than once a year, and it is possible that more than one group from SoCalGas may visit your property to inspect the gas meter and pipeline.
SoCalGas technicians work Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.– 3:00 p.m. Our technicians will be in a SoCalGas company uniform and will have a company issued I.D. Inspections are typically conducted within five minutes. After the inspection is complete, the technician may return later to perform maintenance based on the inspector’s original findings.
If you received a Meter Inspection Notice, please call us to make access arrangements for an inspection at (877)-268-4298, Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Preparing for MSA Inspectors
- Provide a safe path to the natural gas meter by keeping your dog in the house, garage or other secure space, away from the natural gas meter.
- Keep the area around the meter clear of any obstructions, plants or shrubs.
- Ensure there are no locked gates to prevent access to the meter.
