Residential Methane Detection
To enhance safety during California's clean energy transition, in the coming weeks, SoCalGas technicians will be visiting your property to install a Remote Methane Detector on your gas meter. Similar to CO2 monitors used inside homes, this new equipment uses advanced technology to detect minor gas leaks.
The safe and reliable delivery of natural gas to valued customers like you is our top priority. Your enhanced gas meter will allow faster and more efficient detection of and response to minor gas leaks.
When installing the Remote Methane Detector, technician will be performing an incidental leak check at gas facilities which includes a portion of customer-owned gas house piping. If leakage is found on SoCalGas-owned gas piping, repairs will be made by technician. If leakage is found on customer-owned house piping, gas service may be left off until repaired by customer.
The new equipment is installed at no cost to the resident.
