LOS ANGELES - The Santa Clarita City Council recognized SoCalGas for reaching a major milestone in the Honor Rancho Compressor Modernization Project, an investment designed to improve air quality, support energy reliability and deliver long-term benefits for customers and the community.

During a council meeting, Mayor Laurene Weste and other council members honored SoCalGas following the start of construction at the Honor Rancho Storage Facility. The recognition highlighted the collaboration among city leaders, community stakeholders and SoCalGas to advance a project that is expected to modernize critical energy infrastructure serving Southern California. Devin Zornizer, SoCalGas vice president of infrastructure project delivery, accepted the recognition on behalf of the company and thanked the city of Santa Clarita for its support throughout the planning and permitting process.

"We're grateful to the City Council, city staff and our community partners for their collaboration and support throughout the [planning and permitting] process," said Zornizer. "As construction moves forward, we're focused on modernizing critical energy infrastructure that will improve air quality, support reliability and deliver long-term benefits for the communities we serve." The recognition comes just weeks after SoCalGas joined city officials, labor representatives, leaders from the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation, and community stakeholders for a groundbreaking ceremony at the facility.

For more than 50 years, the Honor Rancho Storage Facility has played an important role in supporting energy reliability across the Santa Clarita Valley and Southern California. The modernization project will replace aging equipment with advanced natural gas-fueled and electric compressors, which are expected to reduce permitted smog-forming emissions by an estimated 95% while improving system performance.

Natural gas storage helps ensure energy is available when customers need it most, particularly during periods of high demand and extreme weather. By modernizing the facility, SoCalGas is investing in infrastructure that helps maintain reliable service, supports more stable energy costs and strengthens the region's energy system for years to come.

Beyond its operational and environmental benefits, the project is expected to support economic activity in Santa Clarita. As work progresses, SoCalGas remains committed to keeping stakeholders informed and partnering with the Santa Clarita community as it continues to deliver safe, reliable and affordable energy to the more than 21 million consumers it serves across Southern California.
