Over 60,000 Water and Energy Efficiency Kits Delivered to LADWP and SoCalGas Customers to Help Adopt Sustainable Practices and Save Money

LOS ANGELES – Over 60,000 water and energy efficiency kits were distributed to income-qualified customers residing in disadvantaged communities in Los Angeles through a collaboration with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) and Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas). Each efficiency kit is equipped with simple household devices to help conserve water, natural gas and electricity, helping customers save money on their utility bills. Installing these devices can help save over 840 million gallons of water, reduce natural gas usage in Los Angeles by approximately 500,000 net therms, and save close to 1.8 million kWh in annual energy usage per year as a result of this program. The natural gas and electric savings are equivalent to the greenhouse emissions of over 700 gasoline-powered passenger vehicles or the energy use of over 800 homes for one year.
Each kit contains two CA-compliant 9W LED bulbs; two water-efficient shower heads; three faucet aerators; and inserts with information to access other LADWP water and energy efficiency programs and rebates. Customers will also receive information on energy-saving tankless water heaters and clothes dryers that are eligible for SoCalGas rebates. Distribution of the efficiency kits was completed last month.

LADWP recognizes the need to continue diversifying and expanding its local water resources through various methods and strategies, including initiatives focused on water conservation. The City of Los Angeles has long-embraced water conservation as a way of life, resulting in a continued and steady decrease in water use. As of September 2024, the City’s water demand hit 103 gallons per capita per day (GPCD), down from the 133 GPCD benchmark set in 2014.
LADWP offers a wide range of rebate programs and other resources to help and encourage customers to adopt sustainable practices that further support these critical conservation efforts.
Apart from the efficiency kits recently delivered to both income-qualified LADWP and SoCalGas customers, SoCalGas offers its customers an opportunity to receive an additional free kit to further their natural gas and water savings. It includes three faucet aerators (one for your kitchen, two for bathrooms) and a low-flow shower head. Low-flow shower heads and faucet aerators are great ways to help save energy and water. These kits can be requested at socalgas.com/StarterKit and customers are limited to one kit.
SoCalGas' energy efficiency programs are some of the largest in the United States. Over the last five years, they have helped save SoCalGas customers over $241 million in utility bill costs and delivered more than 219 million therms in energy savings. That's enough natural gas usage for approximately 548,000 households a year and reduced greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) by over 1.2 million metric tons, the equivalent of removing over 250,000 cars from the road annually.
