Over the years, we've earned a number of honors for our environmental stewardship, including U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awards for outstanding contributions to energy efficiency and environmental education.

"Once again, SoCalGas® has demonstrated its leadership in the field of green building and sustainability. This is a company that has historically practiced what it preaches, beginning with its Energy Resource Center in Downey, Calif., which became the first LEED®-certified building in this region a decade ago."

2010 Excellence in ENERGY STAR® Promotion Award

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) lauded SoCalGas's efforts to educate consumers about using energy-efficient products and services to reduce pollution and save money. The award particularly recognized SoCalGas's work to promote the "Change the World, Start with ENERGY STAR" national campaign in 2009.

2008 ENERGY STAR Leadership in Housing Award

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recognized SoCalGas for sponsoring more than 1000 ENERGY STAR homes in 2007. The award generally recognizes those companies and partners whose programs, services and products have helped in building over 120,000 new homes during 2007 which met or exceeded ENERGY STAR guidelines for energy efficiency.

In total, the energy savings benefit from these new homes is equivalent to taking 58,800 vehicles off the road or saving the environment from 697,560,000 pounds of CO2.

2008 Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®)

SoCalGas won this award for the energy-efficient renovation of our Monterey Park facility. As a result of the renovation, we've reduced water use by 30 percent, improved indoor air quality dramatically and introduced daylight to 90 percent of the workspaces for our employees.

SoCalGas's Monterey Park office is the utility's fourth LEED®-certified facility. The others include the aforementioned Energy Resource Center and customer service bases in Murrieta and Hawthorne. SoCalGas also was recognized in 2007 by the International Interior Design Association with its Environmental Award.

2007 Industry Pioneer Award

SoCalGas was recognized by the Alternative Fuels Vehicle Institute (AFVi) for our leadership in advancing natural gas as a clean transportation fuel.
