David Barrett, Senior Vice President and General Counsel

David Barrett is senior vice president and general counsel of the Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas), a Sempra regulated California utility. In this role, he is responsible for leading SoCalGas’ law department, advising the company on all legal matters, and overseeing a broad range of additional business functions, including strategy, enterprise risk management, compliance, sustainability, environmental policy, environmental services, and gas acquisition. Barrett joined Sempra in 2002 as assistant general counsel of environmental law, and since then, he has held positions of increasing responsibility across the enterprise, including assistant general counsel of real estate and environmental law for SDG&E and associate general counsel of gas infrastructure for Sempra.
