
Maryam S. Brown, CEO and President
Maryam S. Brown is the Chief Executive Officer and President of Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) where she is responsible for the full scope of utility operations, including system reliability, emergency response, financial performance, regulatory compliance, infrastructure investment, customer service, and long-term strategic planning. As CEO, she leads more than 7,700 employees who deliver safe, reliable, and affordable energy to over 21 million consumers across 500 communities in a 24,000‑square‑mile service territory.
Brown became CEO in 2025 and led SoCalGas through the operational challenges of the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, coordinating closely with public safety agencies to protect critical infrastructure and restore service efficiently. Her leadership emphasizes operational excellence, customer service, energy security, and system reliability.
From 2019 to 2025, she served as President of SoCalGas, strengthening system performance and supporting modernization initiatives designed to enhance reliability and resiliency across the company’s service area. During her tenure, Brown also oversaw the creation and development of the H2 Innovation Experience (H2IE), North America’s first hydrogen-powered microgrid and residential demonstration project, showcasing how clean hydrogen can serve as a force multiplier to complement and strengthen the natural gas system.
Before joining SoCalGas, Brown served as Vice President for Federal Government Affairs at Sempra, overseeing national legislative and regulatory strategy. She previously held senior counsel roles in the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, including Senior Energy and Environment Counsel to two Speakers of the House, contributing to major legislation involving energy security, infrastructure, and grid reliability. She developed her passion for the energy industry as a reliability engineer at the Amoco Texas City refinery before practicing corporate and energy law at a nationally prominent firm.
Brown holds a J.D. from the Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center, where she graduated Order of the Coif, and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Louisiana State University, where she was named the Outstanding Mechanical Engineering Graduate. She serves on the Stifel Board of Directors, the American Gas Association Foundation, and is the Chairman of the Board of the California Chamber of Commerce.
