Project Background
On the afternoon of Saturday, December 27, 2025, SoCalGas detected a natural gas pipeline break near the I-5 Freeway and Ridge Route Road in the community of Castaic. SoCalGas took prompt action to safely stop the flow of gas to the impacted pipeline segment.
The break occurred following heavy rainfall. A review of the incident, including geological evaluations, determined that a significant landslide in the area was the cause of the pipeline break.
Project Status and Next Steps
A geotechnical assessment of the area is underway. That work is expected to be completed by the end of March and will guide SoCalGas’s plans to safely replace the damaged pipeline segment.
Currently, construction is expected to begin in April 2026 and could take several months to complete. However, construction timelines may be adjusted pending the outcome of the geotechnical, weather, and other analyses.
Location
Adjacent to Ridge Route Road near the I-5 Freeway in the community of Castaic.
Work Hours
Monday – Friday; 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (subject to change due to weather and other factors).
What to Expect
There may be intermittent construction activity associated with geotechnical assessments or other required field evaluations before full repair construction work can begin.
Customer Impacts
There are no current or anticipated residential customers impacted by the temporary pipeline outage. Non-core natural gas customers experiencing temporary service interruptions have been contacted directly by their Account Executive or Account Manager.
