Project Background

On Saturday, December 27, 2025, SoCalGas detected a natural gas pipeline break near the I-5 Freeway and Ridge Route Road in the community of Castaic. SoCalGas took prompt action to safely stop the flow of gas to the impacted pipeline segment.

The break occurred following heavy rainfall.  A review of the incident, including geological evaluations, determined that a significant landslide in the area was the cause of the pipeline break.

Project Status and Next Steps

A geotechnical assessment of the area has been completed and SoCalGas engineers have finalized the first phase of the repair plan for the impacted pipeline. Construction work is scheduled to begin as early as May 26, 2026, and is estimated to last several months. Construction timelines may be adjusted. Assessments on adjacent sections of the pipeline in Castaic were also successfully completed.

Location

Adjacent to Ridge Route Road near the I-5 Freeway in the community of Castaic.
