- On the afternoon of Saturday, Dec. 27, SoCalGas was notified about a potential natural gas pipeline line break near the 5 freeway and Lake Hughes Road, in the community of Castaic.
- SoCalGas crews have safely isolated the damaged section of pipeline, stopping the leak.
- There are no indications, at this time, of an ignition or explosion.
- The cause of the break has not been determined. However, significant land movement has been observed near the break.
- Once remaining natural gas in the damaged pipeline section is safely vented, crews will assess the damage and make repairs to the pipeline.
- There is no known risk to the public. However, residents in nearby communities may smell a natural gas odor while the remaining gas dissipates.
- Currently, fewer than 5 non-residential natural gas customers are experiencing outages as a result of the break.
