The newest natural gas engine uses near-zero technology and produces less greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) and particulate matter (PM) like carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx), 90% below current EPA standards. When powered by renewable natural gas (RNG), it could have up to a 97% reduction in CO2 and 80% reduction in GHGs.*

The sound pressure level of a CNG engine is lower than a diesel engine’s, making them quieter. In addition, refueling with RNG instead of diesel reduces odorant and evaporative emissions.

The existing CNG refueling infrastructure in California is robust, with nearly 200 stations statewide.

Historically, natural gas has been price stable and cost significantly less than a gasoline or diesel gallon equivalent.

NGVs are comparable to their diesel-powered counterparts in power, torque, and range. They also refuel in a similar amount of time. Because of the cleaner burning attributes of natural gas, NGVs also generally have longer engine life and carry lower maintenance costs.

Almost all-natural gas currently consumed in the U.S. is produced in North America. Driving NGVs can help reduce our dependence on foreign oil.

Natural gas is not toxic to touch and has a very narrow concentration range for combustion, which reduces the possibility of accidental combustion. It is also lighter than air and will rise and dissipate if released. An odorant is added to natural gas, making it easier to detect its presence. CNG also does not form combustible pools on the ground, as other fuels might.
